Samsung’s Updates: Flash Player still Exists

Days later after Adobe’s announcement of withdrawing from the battle of mobile devices browser player with HTML5, no Flash Player download available from Google’s app store Play could be found these days.
HTML5 vs Flash PlayerFlash Player vs HTML5
Along with this decision, there is supposed to be no certified version of Flash Player for Android 4.1. For older versions of Google OS, limited use of Flash Player is still I use. However, users have no choice but removing the player after updating to Android 4.1.

That’ to say if your mobile runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, then it won’t go well with Flash Player any more. Even for updated users, Adobe suggested you uninstalling Flash as the uncertified version could exhibit unpredictable behavior.

Then when it comes to Samsung Galaxy S3, many users are worrying about losing Flash Player upon its updating to Jelly Bean 4.1.1. Will that take place in next month (September)? The good news is that: Samsung and Adobe have officially stated that all users of Galaxy S3 I9300 would keep their Flash Player, when upgrade from Android 4.0 ICS to Jelly Bean.
Samsung Galaxy S3 upgrades to JB
Actually, S3 users should know that Flash websites do work smoothly largely because of Samsung S3. Well, the updates would be set on the fourth quarter of 2012 and Galaxy S3, S2, Note, Note 2 are all expected to equipped with JB.Samsung confirmed during its IFA 2012 keynote today that a Jelly Bean update is coming to both the Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note 10.1 "very soon." It’s good to know that Adobe Flash Player still exists in mobile and of Android after August 15th.

RealNetworks’ Cuts: 80 after 80?

As officially stated, in order to reduce operating expenses, RealNetworks cut 80 employees yesterday on August 28th. If you ever remember, this seemed to happen when RealNetworks declared to cut 130 staff last February (which actually was not the first time). The company said it was good for changing the bad situation for RealNetworks.
realnetworks
The number of employees is down to about 1,300, (it was 1,700 2 years before). And the amount of being cut this year reaches to 7% of its total workforce. The lay-off related cost may also be around 2 million to 2.5 million dollars. Rob Glaser, who returned to the helm of the online media company in July, said in a companywide e-mail that the layoffs were the first step in the company's plan to reduce costs by $45 million.
realplayer
If no new jobs provided, there may probably be another lay-off of 80 more. That would possibly happen in the next 7 months, although the company said it hoped to redeploy many of them when the current assignments come to the end.

Most well-known as the producer of media player software-RealPlayer and the operator of GameHouse casual games site, RealNetworks once lead the media field as a pioneer of streaming audio and video.

What do you think of Real's cuts? Or will Real cut another 80 in the next 7 months? How about the Android version RealPlayer that has already released eariler this month?

Samsung Galaxy Player 5.8 or iPod Touch of 3.5-inch

The stereotyped portable music/video player should be handy and convenient enough for users’ experience would probably be broken down in the coming International Funkausstellung Berlin (IFA) when Samsung is about to release its super huge Galaxy player 5.8. A player with 5.8 inch display? That’s even bigger than Galaxy S 3, and makes Galaxy Note look small somehow.

samsung galaxy player 5.8 specifications
With a similar outlook of Galaxy S3, this 5.8-inch PMP has a 960 x 540 qHD resolution LCD touchscreen. It runs Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich OS and is powered by a 1 GHz dual-core CPU with 1 GB RAM.. Users can choose either 16 or 32GB fixed memory, along with a micro SD card slot for extending to 32GB more. WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS are also on board as the previous versions. With a 2,500mAh battery (larger than galaxy note's 2100, to balance its size and needs), Galaxy Player 5.8 measures in at 165.8 x 85.9 x 10.8 mm and 221g.
samsung galaxy player 5.8-galaxy S3
Galaxy player’s lineup of 3.6-inch, 4.0-inch, 4.2-inch and 5.0-inch models were said to enjoy advantages over iPod. Expandable memory and removable battery won’t be found in Apple’s iPod. Moreover, the latest carries a larger screen than 3.5-inch of iPod touch.

However, would the large screen actually bring up its sharpness? Let’s take a look at the resolution details:
Galaxy Player 5.8: 960×540
iPod touch 3.5: 960×640
iPod touch
When taken the screen size into consideration, it’s obvious to notice that iPod touch definitely offers a superior resolution with a much smaller display screen. When talking about the 5.8-inch galaxy player, 5.3-inch screen on the Samsung Galaxy Note is far more than gargantuan. As a matter of fact, I even wonder if 5.8-inch is too big for my pocket as so many of you may wonder as well.

Comparing the two players, each contains certain kinds of merits. Which one do you prefer, Galaxy Player 5.8 or iPod touch of 3.5-inch? Black and white for both players, let’s wait and see if Samsung could change the traditional player and beat Apple this time.

Top 3 iPad Video Apps for Free

Watching videos on your iPad would have been an enjoyable thing if you’re not annoyed by the few formats it supports (i.e., mp4, m4v, and mov). Thus playing videos on your iPad could even be a chore with the native video player. There are many video player apps for iPad videos, most of which are declaring to support formats. Among them, I recommend you 3 ones which are good that play most of the standard video formats (wmv, mkv, avi, mp4, flv, rmvb, and even subtitle files) and cost you no money.

PlayerXtreme HD - Premium Multimedia Player

PlayerXtreme HD-free iPad video player
PlayerXtreme is able to run files in almost any video format. With it you can play your email attachments. HD (in 1080P) playback is supported for MP4, MOV and M4V formats. It supports .srt subtitles and you can control subtitle's font size, track, and language. One of the most astonishing features is that it could boost volume upto 12 times of the original sound, which makes it possible for you viewing videos without headphones.

PlayerX would be a decent option for most standard quality videos, despite its slow speed in loading files. BTW, there are no ads included.

8player lite

8Player lite-free iPad video player
With 8player lite, you can play videos on your i-devices, not just for iPad, but also for iPod and iPhone. Well, actually, it’s more than just a video player, it also supports audio formats as mp3, aac, wav, etc. and images of jpeg, png, etc. formats.

As the latest application for Video, Music & Photo streaming from any compatible UPnP/DLNA server, you can use embedded Windows 7 server (built in Windows Media Player), or download any other free server, if you don’t have DLNA/UPnP servers.

OPlayerHD Lite

OPlayer HD lite-free iPad video player
Well, this is lite version of OPlayerHD which has been rated as “iPhone apps Plus Best”. Actually, I think it would be the best free choice in video player apps. After all, the main difference between the lite and full versions is a single ad that rests in the top of the iPad, often in the black letterbox bars. It supports most of the video formats, video formats, and even subtitle file formats. Though not displaying quite as sharply as AV Player or GoodPlayer, OPlayerHD Lite has an integrated browser, ftp, and streaming options.

With free these video players you can watch your movies on the go from anywhere even if they’re in any format even if they don’t normally play or even sync with your iPad!

5 Video Sites that can Replace YouTube

YouTube was created in 2005, but much like Google, it feels like it’s been around forever. We post our videos on YouTube, look for some silly entertainment during boring afternoons and send videos along to friends much like old ladies used to spread gossip around town not very long ago.

But should you be limited to YouTube? Let’s be honest, there is a whole world of streaming video online that most people have never seen because they have settled for YouTube. Most sites have the same features, or features even better than YouTube has and some have a more specialized selection or much higher quality videos.

So here is a small sample of video sites you should check out that many people feel are better than YouTube.

1.Current TV
Current TV-video sites

Current TV is a website that is also a TV channel, but unlike all other tv sites, that post their content from tv on their sites, Current plays the content from their website on TV. People post their videos, or pods, on the site which get voted by the community and the highest ranking ones get on their television channel. Current has an enticing variety of videos, but the heart of the site is its amazing independent journalism. On Current, you can see all the reports that usually don’t get on television, or a whole new approach to the news you do see. For video producers, it’s a chance to get your video on tv and a little bit of cash to go with it.

2.TED
TED-video sites

TED is unique in the world of streaming video, and it is brilliant in its own way. TED’s whole concept is to spread ideas, and to accomplish that, it has enlisted some of the most brilliant minds in the world to create “talks” about topics as diverse as Eve Ensler’s “Embrace your inner child”, Murray Gell-Mann’s ”Beauty and truth in physics” or Bill Gates’ “Mosquitos, malaria and education”. Better than YouTube in another way, the search on the site also works in an ingenious way, letting you search by keywords or by themes such as: inspiring, beautiful or fascinating. For those of us who are eternal students, TED is a jewel of endless facets.

3.Big Think
bigthink-video sites

Following a very similar style to TED, Big Think takes an interview approach to its video instead of a prepared talk. The result is a very interesting group of answers that make you feel like you actually got to ask a famous expert the question yourself and he had the kindness to reply. It’s not as evolved as TED is, but it is certainly biting at its heels.

4.Atom
Atom-video sites

If you think YouTube videos are funny, you’ve never visited Atom, previously Atom Films. With an enormous array of animations, comedy shorts and sketches, Atom hasn’t lost its edge after its acquisition by MTV. Because of its huge selection of talented filmmakers who normally contribute to the site and with their own staff filmmakers, who were selected from some of the funniest sites online, Atom manages to consistently have shorts that will lighten up the most boring of days.

5.Blip.tv
blip.tv-video sites

Created on May 11, 2005, the same year as YouTube, Blip.tv has mimicked what network television channels offer but using the same resource Current TV uses: independent producers. It currently has about 48,000 independently produced Web shows and approximately 22,000,000 viewers. They share the revenue of their ads with the producers, which allows them to make some income from their shows and keep producing them and in exchange, Blip.tv gets a constant supply of episodes for their site. So what can you find on Blip.tv? Mostly, the site consists of series of shows, much like television shows, with genres like dating, technology, animation and a diverse group of fiction stories.

There are of course many more video websites for you, you can choose one for yourslef. For entertainment or information, these websites above are great.

Flash Player Left Android Mobile

RealPlayer has just returned for Android, while flash player has left. How much further will it go on?

As a cross-platform, browser-based application runtime, Adobe Flash player provides uncompromised viewing of expressive applications, content, and videos, content, and videos across browsers and operating systems. It can be used for viewing multimedia, Rich Internet Applications, and streaming video and audio, on a computer web browser or mobile devices.

But the application in mobile devices came to the end after Apple refused to allow the Flash Player within the inbuilt iOS web browser. About a week ago on August 15th, Adobe Systems officially declared no flash player for portable android devices anymore. Actually, Adobe has already made decision not to develop flash player for web on mobile.

Adobe flash player and android

Adobe once tried hard for portable devices, but was banned by Apple. Adobe will block new installs of Flash on Android, essentially removing its presence from the mobile world. People say that Adobe would have turned its purpose on Android, but never effectively marketed its integration features with Google’s popular mobile OS. iOS never stands behind it as Steve Jobs expressed in April 2010: iPhone, iPod and iPad would never have flash player found.

Is the era of html 5 for mobile coming as flash player die away? On another hand, the exit of mobile field of flash player actually means to give up a greater market-85% Android OS of the whole mobile market.

Android 4.1 does not allow installation of flash player, and now it’s official. From then on, Adobe will disable all new installs of Flash player for Android. However, this never means this software or flash would disappear from people’s life. As a matter of fact, it still owns great advances over other player in the PC world-Google’s Chrome support it, by the way. Windows 8 from Microsoft still has built-in flash player since html 5 is not stable enough for the market. With all these changes in the internet world and portable devices, I wonder how long can flash last?

No.1 Option for Teens' Music Listening: YouTube

Gone are the days of teenagers buying albums and listening to them all the way through, as are the days of following beloved radio DJs and tuning in at the appropriate times. The new generation is opting for their own music curating by means of YouTube, according to a new study released today by consumer research firm Nielsen.

YouTube-musicAlthough many people -- 48 percent -- still discover music through radio, the majority of teens -- 64 percent -- listen to tunes through YouTube. Nielsen's report, called Music 360, takes an in-depth look at how different age groups are buying and listening to music these days.

"The accessibility of music has seen tremendous expansion and diversification," Nielsen's senior vice president of client development David Bakula said in a statement. "While younger listeners opt for technologically advanced methods, traditional methods of discovery like radio and word-of-mouth continue to be strong drivers."

Even though lots of teens are listening to music via YouTube, roughly 50 percent are still buying CDs, listening to the radio, and using iTunes. Over the last year, 33 percent of adolescents bought a CD and 51 percent have purchased a music download. Teens also tend to have their finger on the music pulse more than adults -- 33 percent bought a digital track within one week of release, while only 21 percent of adults did.
Here are some other interesting stats from Music 360:

Positive recommendations from a friend are most likely to influence purchase decisions

54 percent are more likely to make a purchase based off a positive recommendation from a friend
25 percent are more likely to make a purchase based off a music blog/chat rooms
12 percent are more likely to make a purchase based off an endorsement from a brand
8 percent of all respondents share music on social networking sites, while 6 percent upload music

Music player apps are most prevalent, followed by radio and music store apps

54 percent have music player apps on their smartphones
47 percent have radio apps on their smartphones
26 percent have music store apps on their smartphones

Digital music is seen as a slightly better value than a physical CD

63 percent of purchasers identified digital albums as a very or fairly good value
61 percent identified digital tracks as a very or fairly good value
55 percent identified physical CDs as a very or fairly good value

It's important to point out that Nielsen's report doesn't take into account music streaming services like Pandora, Spotify, and iHeartRadio, which is a growing way for people to discover and listen to music.

Bakula also noted that as music becomes more widely accessible with technology and the Internet, more people are now listening to music. "With so many ways to purchase, consume and discover great new music," he said, "it's no wonder that the consumer continues to access and enjoy music in greater numbers."

Free RealPlayer's Back for Android

As time goes by, RealPlayer, which was widely used on almost everyone’s computer back to the 90’s, has been gradually faded away from people’s sight. Whether because of its own development prospect or competitions, until recently, RealPlayer comes back again. This most well-recognized media player giant RealNetworks Company has just released RealPlayer app for Andriod in hoping to distance himself from the destructive opinions that have historically surrounded its desktop counterpart. (Previously, we’ve talked about the Beta version)
Video player-RealPlayer for Android
The newly-launched RealPlayer app is an all-in-one app for music, videos and photos, which makes it quite convenient to manage all your mobile media experience. It seems like RealPlayer does everything-play music, video; handle photos, be plugged directly into websites like FB.

Though with complicated functions, it is quite easy to operate. The app’s interface is simple with a clean, icon-based dashboard. All audio controls are placed at the center of the screen while icons for videos and photos at the bottom. Right on the dashboard, there are options for browsing Playlists, Albums, Genres, Artists, or Songs. At the first installation, it will automatically take inventory of the media on your device and populates its menus with your content, which make it possible for you to start your playing immediately.

"This is the media player that people want," said Scott Uomoto, SVP Consumer and Helix Divisions of RealNetworks. "It delivers on what RealNetworks does best: helping people simplify, connect to, and enjoy their digital media in the increasingly complex world of mobile media. We drew on the rich heritage of the RealPlayer media platform, which has close to 500 million installs over the last 2.5 years —with 190 million installs alone over the last 12 months— and is one of the most recognized brands in media players worldwide."
Free Video player-RealPlayer for Android
Key features:
1. Easily Organize & Play Music
Use an intuitive interface, metadata discovery, widgets and voice controlled search.
2. Listen to Music Your Way
You are the DJ with an equalizer, playlist editor, crossfade and personalized radio. 3. Share Your Media
Show off your media on Facebook, YouTube, Flickr and Picasa.
4. Use the Free or Upgraded App
Enjoy the free app or upgrade for even more features.

Users are beginning to worrying about too much adware, due to the bad reputation of its bigger brother RealPlayer desktops. And some complain about no power features like photo effects, advanced sorting or video editing effects are added. Anyway, for your multimedia experience, RealPlayer for Android would absolutely be perfect. It will simplify your mobile, after all. You can get it on GooglePlay.

According to LesEchos.fr, Orange is considering to acquire the 51% stakes left of the company to fully own DailyMotion. This potential buyout couldn't exceed €72M, and the transaction date would occur during the first quarter of 2013.

Amazon Launches New iPad Player

Amazon has been ramping up its digital video store for years. But until now it hasn’t been able to get the videos it rents and sells onto the iPad.

Now it can: The “Amazon Instant Video” player is available on iTunes for free.

The app won’t work on iPhones, but other than that, it is basically an analog of Amazon’s iOS Kindle apps: You can use it to access videos you’ve bought or rented from Amazon’s store, but you can’t actually buy or rent the content directly from the app. (For more on this, review last year’s changes to Apple’s iTunes rules.)

So this won’t help Amazon do much to market its offerings, but it adds obvious value for its existing consumers. (Via 9to5 Mac.)
